CLAN in the Community

Managed by:

Cancer Link Aberdeen & North (CLAN)

Project Description

CLAN provides support for cancer patients and their families through counselling and complementary therapies.  The project will employ 3 local co-ordinators to provide cancer support services to the rural communities of Aberdeenshire.  Suitable venues will be identified to deliver the unique service to clients.  There is wide ranging support for the service which is additional and complementary to NHS care.

Quote from Participating Organisation

Debbie Thomson, Chief Executive of CLAN

Just over two years ago CLAN launched a pilot project to take our services out into the community.   Not all our clients wish or indeed are able to travel to CLAN House in Aberdeen to access our therapies or support groups.  We now have a presence in Ballater, Inverurie, Peterhead and Stonehaven – in 2009 almost 20% of our therapies were delivered in Aberdeenshire.   As we come to the end of the initial pilot, we were delighted to receive funding from the Rural Aberdeenshire LEADER Programme as this will allow us to develop services in Aberdeenshire enabling more people from the rural areas to access our support locally.
