Burns in the Mearns

Managed by:

The Friends of the Grassic Gibbon Centre

Project Description

The project is to organise a weekend event from 14 to 16 August 2009 to promote the work of Robert Burns, Lewis Grassic Gibbon and Joan Eardley.  The event is being run as a pilot initiative under the banner of “Mearns Connections” with the intention of holding a yearly event which will focus on different aspects to raise the profile of the Mearns area.  The initiative ties in with Homecoming 2009 and has the potential to raise the international profile of the Mearns area and increase visitor numbers by promoting its cultural heritage.

Quote from Participating Organisation

Isabella Williamson, Friends of the Grassic Gibbon Centre

“Securing LEADER funding for Burns in the Mearns means that we can move forward with the project with the confidence that we now have sufficient funding to organise a really outstanding event.  We have been amazed and delighted with the support and interest received for the project and have already had people contacting us wishing to purchase tickets for events from as far afield as Australia.  We realise that there is a lot of work ahead for us but look forward to the challenge.”
