Pitsligo Castle Gardens - Archaeological Investigations

Managed by:

Pitsligo Castle Trust

Project Description

The ruined Pitsligo Castle is an ancient monument of national significance and Pitsligo Castle Trust aims to conserve the site and gardens for future generations.

The project is to undertake an archaeological survey of Pitsligo Castle Gardens with a view to restore and redevelop the extensive garden compartments which adjoined the Castle.  Historic Scotland is aware of and approves the proposals.  The gardens can be used for a range of purposes, benefiting the local community, casual visitors, organised historical and archaeological groups, school groups and those with special needs.

Quote from Participating Organisation

Richard Leith, Project Manager, Pitsligo Castle Trust

”The Pitsligo Castle Trust is delighted with the award of LEADER funding for work which will lead to the development of a major new garden for north-east Scotland, at the historically important Pitsligo Castle, as part of its wider project proposals. Without this assistance and a recognition of the potential value of the overall project to the local economy, a delay in implementing the archaeological investigations would have been critical to the programme timetable.”
